I was recently contemplating the science behind my literary work...
Background and Topic
Essentially I've made 2 separate stories centered around the same general theme with the same general characters. The Time Lord race, in the current setting of the book, suffers from a severe philosophical misconception. Because the 'new' Time Lords* which are the subject of the story know so little of their roots the nominated governmental leaders developed a strict ideology. This ideology set forth that the reason why Time Lords had their 'powers' was because they were supposed to be the highest moral and just force in the area. The area being anywhere they could get to.
This ideology was strictly enforced not by punishment in the sense that many would typically view it as but in social and self rejection. It was taught that if the pure morals and justice that was taught to them was not enforced within themselves they would fail themselves and every other living thing and system as their purpose was to maintain the stability within all these things. Any flaw within themselves would make them unfit for their responsibilities.
Because many of the current Time Lords displayed sometimes blantant, sometimes subtle, imperfections the excuse was developed that they did not have enough knowlege or experience to maintain themselves at the appropriate levels of perfection. Hence a complex education and mission system developed where after immense schooling they would be assigned non-trivial tasks as a sort of training.
The government type is an unusal mixture, having a communist-like appearence that is in fact more of a dictatorship on the unseen levels. General necessities are provided by the goverment but the subjects are allowed to do just about anything that pleases them, even if not within the ideals there is no physical force to stop them. However, above the usual seen leaderships, is the mysterious dictatorship of the "elder Time Lords", the few of the originial Time Lords who exist. They can make or break anything even though they usually stay out of the way. They are very secretive and are supposed to have the best intentions for leaving the younger, newer Time Lords in the dark.
*Due to a supposed war that took place nearly all (aside from the "elder Time Lords") were 'killed' and slowly returned mysteriously without memories and much younger. It was deemed to be a sort of reincarnation (to make things simple).
The main idea of the set of stories is the transition and the realization of the incorrectness of the strong ideaology that was set for themselves and how they have to reshape their whole system on account of it. They discover this through encounters with their near-opposites and a slow regeneration of their original memories.
The Science:
Nearly every 'supernatural' act has some sort of science behind it. There is no such thing as 'magic'. Time Lords were born with abilities that are very scientific in what they do even if difficult to explain in how they obtained the abilities in the first place.
The museum is the center of their powers to the knowlege of the young Time Lords, containing numerous rooms, some with unknown purpose. From there and from recruiting knowlege obtained from there they can mold the frequencies and behaviors of "strings". This follows the string theory in which all matter is composed of sub-atomic, vibrating strings existing in 10 dimension hyperspace. All the types of elementary particles can be derived from the 5 types of interections between only 2 types of strings. The use of instruments by the younger Time Lords have nothing to do with any powers within the instrument but are useful for the Time Lords to focus when using any power to alter the strings, much like how ski poles are useful for the skier but not at all necissary.
Their use of telepathy is taken for granted and so is not often explained. It is, however, due to the influencing and receiving of quantum fluctuations with some association to quantum entanglment. The sefrei has much more to do with quantum entanglment that is actually limited and controlled within the museum and by the elder Time Lords. In the first story holes that formed in the fabric of space, so to speak, hindered the effects of quantum entanglment that the sefrei was lost altogether. There are also a number of other cases in which the sefrei can be hindered (quantum entanglment not that difficult to hinder).
Time travel has the usual worm-hole connections.
So, as you can see, I have tried to use a significant amount of intelligence in my work...hopefully not in vain x_x
Hence which led me to some more research today. I really enjoy physics but I am eager to get a chance to impliment my knowlege regarding genetics into my story. Cornelius/Combicon is considered the scientist of the lot so eventually I will develop something in connection to by beloved topic in genetics, probably involving him.
Since I am on a role I think I'll map out the main and mainish characters. This will be a good reference for me so I don't lose track of where i am going.
Psy: the most knowlegeable and 'ideal', he is one of the two local leaders. He is considered everyone's role model.
Mel Iroc: how much knowlege he has is only known by Mel Iroc himself or, perhpas, Psy. He is the anti-role model and is very different from his partner.
You might say that they are the like two "entangled photons" in quantum entanglement...heheh...
Cornelius/Combicon: Used to be adventurous and a slacker to the rules. After meeting Taran he took a drastic turn in the other direction. Highly up to date and intelliegent because he was personally raised by Psy himself, his original rebel-like tendency turned into a scholar obsessed with the ideal but waay to stuck in the past to go about it right.
Taran: An unusual Time Lord who seems to have a more difficult grasp at working with the Time Lord powers than most. It was supposed that a sort of accident that occured at the moment of her 'reincarnation' caused the problems. Even so, she is quite powerful in regards to what she can do.
Ku: Sidekick of Cornelius for a while, but got left in the dust a bit when Cornelius started to act more like a loner, she wrongfully was allowed (by Cornelius) to spy on Psy via a blackmail. She later becomes Taran's friend who sometimes has a tendency to be left behind or the odd one out. She isn't given the amount of credit she deserves, at least not in her opinion.
Krellen: The crazy one who sometimes claims to have tossed ideals to the side but is in truth highly considerate of it and feels genuine regret when he lets himself go too far, or at least let's himself get caught. He is the absolute worst at controlling himself.
Zale: A mysterious character who has bound himself to Mel Iroc. He is fairly impartial to nearly everything, extremely capable and knowlegable. He never speaks and only uses telepathy.
I dunno...stupid?
